Duties
  • Undertake research activities that will include, literature searching and reviewing; undertaking qualitative interviews and focus groups with children and adults; qualitative data analysis; and critical evaluation and interpretation under the supervision of the Principal Investigator of the study.
  • Present regular progress reports on the project to the research team.
  • Write up results of own work and contribute to the production of research reports and publications.
  • Carry out routine administrative duties as required, e.g. arranging research team meetings.
  • Carry out any other duties designated by a line manager and which fall within the general ambit of the post.
Planning and Organising:
  • Plan own day-to-day activities and fieldwork within the timescales of the research programme.
  • Contribute to the planning of the research project, reports and publications.
Resource Management Responsibilities: 
  • Ensure research resources are used in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Provide guidance as required to support staff who may be assisting with the project.
Internal and External Relationships:
  • Liaise with research colleagues and support staff on routine matters.
  • Liaise with colleagues from external agencies.
  • Make internal and external contacts to develop knowledge and understanding and form relationships for future collaboration.
  • Attend and contribute to relevant meetings.
Essential Criteria
  • An upper second class honours degree (or equivalent) in Law, Education, Psychology, Sociology or cognate discipline.
  • Hold or be about to obtain (submission by 30 June 2013) a PhD in Law, Education, Psychology, Sociology or cognate discipline.
  • At least one year’s relevant research experience (in addition to any experience gained during primary degree).
  • Experience of undertaking literature reviews and qualitative research methods.
  • Knowledge of children’s rights/ human rights or child advocacy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas effectively.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Ability to plan and organise workload to meet standards and deadlines.
  • Willingness to undertake additional training in research methods as required.
  • Willingness to travel around Northern Ireland and Ireland as required.
  • Ability to meet the mobility needs of the post.
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience of researching human rights or children’s rights.
  • Experience of delivering training on children’s rights or human rights.

Salary: £25,504 – £32,267 per annum (including contribution points)
